Now that you have a handle on the basic controls and you know a bit about building you are probably curious about the back story of the game and how its characters work. Below we delve a bit deeper into the game itself, and include some information about classes, physics and the Castle Story bad guys Corruptrons.

Castle Story is a sand box style game which means you can openly explore and manipulate your world using your Bricktron characters, who look like little Lego Men. You are allowed to cut down trees and mine for stone, and then use these materials to build structures. I want to note here that you should try to keep your structures as simple as you can while also making them easy to defend and strong. The easier they are to navigate the easier a time your Bricktrons will have defending it.

Bricktrons

You are fully in charge of your Bricktrons and you control what they do, where they do and which classes they belong to. There are three classes of Bricktrons;

Workers – these are the guys you build your world with. You will have lumberjacks, miners and builders and you will assign one of these options to each Bricktron.

Warriors – these are the guys who will defend your structures in hand to hand combat. You can tell them apart by their helmet, shield and sword.

Archers – these guys will defend your structures with arrows. They wear jaunty little green hats and carry a bow and arrow. They have one hit kills but can be distracted by the things around them and will sometimes miss.

Keep in mind that the classes are item based, so you can easily add a shield and helmet to a worker to make him a warrior, or some variation of this.

Corruptrons

Corruptrons are the bad guys in Castle Story. They do not have classes, but there are small, more intelligent versions and larger, stronger, but basically dumb versions. The fight hand to hand and when they kill a Bricktron it will explode into tiny little blocks.

Physics

Castle Story contains realistic physics, and as you can see in the tutorial below, there are various elements at play. This includes explosives and weapons, which can be really cool to look at but really destructive for your structures. Explosions will literally rip your buildings apart and unlike in other sand box style games the debris will not just disappear. You will have to use Bricktrons to clean up the mess and rebuild, or risk leaving a weak spot open to Corruptrons.

Do you have anything to add about this basic overview of the game? Let us know in the comments!

This may seem daunting but in actuality it is rather easy, especially if you follow the steps below in our quick tutorial on how to add additional maps to your Castle Story game

To start you should take a look at the main menu screen. On it you will find some options;

New Game

Load Game

World Editor

Options

Exit

You will find your current maps and games on the Load Game option. Keep this in mind for later.

Next you need to find the map you want online and download it. This is typically very easy and will only take a minute or two, depending on the website you’re using. Once you have downloaded your desired map you should head to where you saved the file and right click on it, then hit extract to “file name” open the file and right click. Then hit cut so you can paste it later on.

The next step is to find where you have saved your Castle Story game on your computer. This is typically found in the C Drive, though it may vary depending on your set up. Once you find the game you need to click info and then click sauveguarde which basically means “save game”. Right click here and paste the map that you downloaded earlier.

To make sure this worked you should head back to the main menu and click on Load Game. You should be able to click on the map and open it up. Note that every time you open a new map you will be given 5 new Bricktrons. This cannot be helped and may be a bit annoying if you are opening up numerous maps.

Do you have any questions or comments? Have you downloaded any new maps to your Castle Story game, and if so how are you enjoying them? Let us know below!

Across the various forums online dedicated to Castle Story there is one question that seems to be universal; how to spawn more Bricktons. Below we will discuss what you need to do to create more Bricktons, so you can build faster and larger structures.

The first thing you need to do is place a barrel close to your mining area. As your Bricktons mine they will occasionally come across these small, shiny blue crystals. When they find these crystals they will automatically bring them to the barrel, if one if present, and toss it in. Once this barrel is 100% full you can use this to make yourself some brand new Bricktons!

The next step is to right click on the barrel which will cause your Brickton to pick it up. According to various sources online and from our own experience you should wait until nightfall to do this. Once darkness falls have your Brickton pick up the barrel and lead him to the big blue crystal structure located in the center of your map.

Finally, to get your new Brickton you need to walk up to the big blue crystal structure and press shift, right click. This will cause your new Brickton to spawn! Now you can use this Brickton to do whatever you need, just like your original five workers. According to internet chatter some areas are more prone to small blue crystals than others, so depending on where you are mining you might be able to spawn a number of new Bricktons. In others there might only be enough for one, or even none.

Do you have any questions about spawning new Bricktons? Do you know if the rumor about only being able to do it at nighttime is true? What about the number of small bule crystals varying from place to place?Let us know what you know in the comments!

Planks, columns and logs are all retrieved from trees, which will be cut down and harvested by your resident builder Brickton. These materials will be used to build the framework for your castle, which be began discussing in an earlier blog. In this blog we will got into greater detail about how these materials are used.

Keep in mind that wood materials are weaker than stone and are also less common and therefore more valuable, in a sense. To begin building your framework you need to choose the column option from the side menu, right clicking and placing the ghost column in your desired spot on the terrain. These can be placed two or four spaces apart, and you will connect them using logs.

To start you should place your columns two spaces apart, so you can better learn the control scheme before you begin in earnest. Once you have two columns placed you need to right click on the log option in the right menu and place this log between the columns. This will automatically create a joint, making the unit structurally sound and supportive.

Once you have this in place you can right click on the plank option and place this across the log. This will create a platform on which your Bricktons can walk or stand. Note that you cannot place bricks on these planks, only on the supportive logs themselves, which are stronger.

You can also use a double column to make your structure taller, and planks to create a roof of sorts. To do this you must also construct a set of stairs for your Bricktons to walk up or they won’t be able to reach. To make a structure longer than two spaces apart you can place your columns four spaces apart and use three logs. This part is a bit tricky because for it to work you must place the two outer support logs first, and then the middle one last. This same idea goes for the planks as well. The outside support planks are always added first.

Have any questions or thoughts about building platforms? Let us know in the comments!

Building a basic structure is very similar to building a stock pile in that you use the same basic controls and place it down the same way. These are just the basic instructions on how to build a simple wall only one level tall. Once you have mastered the basics you will be able to move on to more intricate structures such as houses, and even castles! We get get into those types of buildings in later tutorials.

To begin you need to select the building tab and choose your workers, just like you did with the stock pile, mine and tunnel. Then you need to select your building materials, which mean choosing whether you are building a stone structure or a wooden one. After that you click on the terrain and you will see a ghost brick. If you want to rotate your brick you can tap right click to get it into position.

Once you have the ghost brick into the right spot you only need to click once more to place it. When you do this your assigned Bricktons will immediately begin construction by picking up the correct bricks and walking them over. When your planned structure is finished they will stop. Note that sometimes a Brickton will be in mid pickup when the structure is finished and he will still be holding an extra brick. To get him to drop it you need to go back to the stock pile, right click and have him bring it back.

If you need to delete as portion of your structure you can do it the same way you deleted things in the stock pile and tunnel tutorials.

Mining mines and tunnels are how you will gather the stone bricks you will use to build structures in the game. Below we will discuss how to create a mine and a tunnel and give you some handy tips and tricks as well.

Mines

To begin making a mine you start in the mine group and select mine from the side menu which you can see in the image above. You then need to left click on the terrain and drag your cursor until the mine is the length you desire. Once you let go of your mouse the altitude shirt, or what you determine the depth with, will pop up automatically. You can determine the depth of your mine by scrolling and then clicking anywhere outside it when you are done.

If you make a mistake and you need to delete your mine you can delete the entire mining group and start over, or you can simply click “Clear Mine” and it will erase the mine but not the group.

Tunnels

Making a tunnel is basically creating a mine in a mountain side. To begin you left click on the tunnel tool and then click on the mountainside. We suggest that you click as low as you can on the mountain. If it’s too low you can start over much faster than if you start too high.

You then need to click on the sword tab and a number of options will come up including Edit Mode, Add Blocks and Remove Blocks. You want to use Add Blocks to build your mine inside the mountain. Once you have an entry way you need to click on it (it will turn green) and slowly move your cursor outward to give it length. Once you’ve done this you can create width by selecting other sections of the tunnel and pushing outwards as far as you want to go.

If your tunnel is too large you can easily remedy this by switching to Remove Blocks and taking some blocks away. You should also note that if you accidentally deselect your mine you can click on the mine tab and it will reappear.

Your final step is to assign Bricktons to your mine. You do this the same way you did for the Stock Piles, and they will automatically begin mining for bricks.

Stock Piles are where you keep all of your supplies, whether they are wood or stone. Below we explain how to create stock piles and we also give you some helpful tips.

To begin you need to open the radical menu once you are in the building group. This menu is unique to the building group so you can only open it there. You can use the radical menu to quickly select the type of brick you want to use; standard brick, 1/2 brick, stairs, planks, columns etc. You can also click the back button to get rid of your stock pile selection.

If you want to get rid of an entire stock pile you select it with the stock pile tool. This will turn it yellow and when you click on the stockpile ghost it will be removed.

The next step in using your stock piles is to assign workers to it. You need to go back to your Bricktons and click on the ones you want. Then you right click on the build tab and they will head over to your stock pile to begin filling it. At this point you can let them fill it with both wood and stone, or you can choose to specify that a stock pile will only allow one or the other by clicking either “Stop Accepting Stone” or “Stop Accepting Wood”. Remember to keep your stock piles at least two spaces apart or your Bricktons could get stuck and you will have to delete the entire stock pile to unstick him.

You can use these stock piles to gather your goods before building. It’s a good idea to make more than one stock pile, and then separating wood and stone from each other. Numerous stock piles means you can have more materials on hand and will save you time later on when you’re in the middle of a fun project.

While this is all well and good, you can’t begin building anything until you learn the basic controls of the game. Below we explain the basic controls so you can get started.

The first thing you need to know is that you start with the spacebar. When you click the spacebar a green circle will appear. This is your point of reference for everything in the game. You control your cursor using the W, A, S and D keys on your keyboard.

To rotate the camera you need to push down on the spacebar, right click and then drag your cursor around the lighted pivot point that appears. You can then move in all directions (up, down, left and right etc.).

To pan your camera you need to push the spacebar, left click and then drag your cursor in the direction you want to go, once again up, down, left or right. Remember that the directions are inverted in Castle Story, so when you move your cursor left it goes right, etc. This may take some getting used to if you have more acquainted with similar types of games that do not use inverted directions, but it makes for a more intuitive control scheme once you do.

To move around the world you can scroll your cursor to move the camera and then press the spacebar to move the green dot. You do this after pressing Alt which puts your camera in Terrain Fly By Mode.

Brickton Controls

To select a single Brickton you need to left click while hovering over him. To deselect you simply need to click anywhere outside of the circle. Once you have selected a Brickton he will follow your cursor wherever it goes. To select more than one Brickton you need to click and drag over the group, which opens a blue box. Choose however many you need and then all of them will follow your cursor.

At the bottom left there are some options;

Builders

Lumberjacks

Miners

To put a Brickton in a category you can do one of two things. You can either go to the top left corner of the page and choose the correlating Brickton Avatar (labeled by name) and then drag this to the option you wish to place him in or you can simply select a Brickton, right click on the option and then place him that way. Note that when you choose lumberjack your chosen Brickton will immediately begin chopping down the nearest tree.

If you find yourself getting confused all of these directions can also be found in the top right corner of the screen.

Castle Story Tutorial – Wooden Blocks

The wooden blocks will act as the scaffolds for your castle, for all intents and purposes. These blocks are somewhat fragile and are harvested instead of mined, for obvious reasons (they are wood). While it is more fragile, wood is also a lot more flexible and it’s a lighter building material as well which means bricktrons can lift blocks up and place them higher than other materials, at a 3 instead of a 2. Wooden blocks can also be merged with each other to create wood beams that will support weight and you can also make columns out of blocks which is what lets you use them as scaffolds.

Wood Blocks

Wood blocks can be made into planks which are able to cover a rather large floor area and these planks can also be used to make numerous other useful items such as doors, barrels, crates and chests. Logs can be made into columns pretty easily by simply putting them across level ground. Then other logs may be plugged from the column horizontally. Bricktrons can also walk across these horizontal logs but they cannot put anything on them.

Logs

Logs can be placed between two logs that are plugged in; this will fuse them together and make a beam. A woonden beam is solid enough to support weight because they are supported in two separate places which means you can place things on them, obviously! Keep in mind however that a beam can’t be longer than 6 units long.

Planks

Logs can be made into planks, which can then be plugged out of a horizontal beam but can’t support any weight except for a Bricktron of course. Planks work pretty much the same way as beams. They can fuse with other planks to make them longer, but once again only up to 6 units. The only difference is that unlike beams, planks can’t support logs or bricks, only chests, barrels and Bricktrons. Planks are, however, cheaper and they let Bricktrons pass underneath like an arch.

Finished scaffolds can hold both Bricktrons and some supplies, and then you can start to build brick walls around them to add more protection, which leaves you with a nicer looking and more useful castle.

What do you think of the building supplies so far? Have you built your first castle in Castle Story yet? Let us know about it in the comments!

Before we get into the serious business of building your first castle you should know a bit about the basics of Castle Story. This game isn’t a typical voxel-based game due to the fact that in this case each voxel is bound by rules that alter its behavior entirely. These unique behavior types are what let users build the multifaceted structures that have been drawing people to Castle Story.

The main photo above is a brick. It is measures in units and one brick measures 1X2 units. This is the most basic piece of material you will use when playing Castle Story.

You might be wondering why isn’t it a cube, which seems more obvious? Well, Sauropod addresses this question on their websie and according to them building castles with simple cubes would be a whole different story. With cubes you have fewer choices because what else can you do with cubes but stack one on top of another?

Building a castle from 1X2 bricks is much more of a challenge. If you plan correctly and do everything right each set of alternating blocks will hold the others up. When you are building a wall with cubes and you take one out the entire column will collapse. When you make a similar wall with alternative bricks of 1X2 this is less likely to happen because even if a block or two is deleted the rest are still resting on the alternate blocks. There is a lot more room for error, which is a pretty cool concept.

The challenge with Castle Story is learning how to alternate your bricks so that you can build whatever your mind can think up. Unlike games that use cubes, Castle Story has a fun puzzle element that adds a ton of value to your gaming experience. In addition to that, 1X2 bricks allow you to build more complex buildings that will hold up better if you make drastic changes hald way through.

This is just a basic overview of how the blocks work in Castle Story. We will eventually go more in depth and explain some more technical aspects of the game, as you learn how to build your first castle.

What do you think of Castle Story so far? Any building tips for people just discovering the game right now? Let us know in the comments!
